RULES OF PARTICIPATION

59th edition of the Prof. Jan Szyrocki International Festival of Choral Song in Miedzyzdroje

§1​

  1. The organizers of the Prof. Jan Szyrocki International Festival of Choral Song in Miedzyzdroje, hereinafter referred to as the Festival, are the Polish Association of Choirs and Orchestras Branch in Szczecin and the International House of Culture in Miedzyzdroje.

  2. The Prof. Jan Szyrocki International Festival of Choral Song in Miedzyzdroje, hereinafter referred to as the Festival, is held in categories:

    • Children's choirs up to 16 years old

    • Mixed choirs

    • Homogeneous choirs (male and female)

    • Vocal ensembles up to 16 people (male, female and mixed)

§2

  1. Only amateur choirs are allowed to participate in the festival.

  2. The choir, including the conductor, must not exceed 40 people.

  3. The program performed by the choir as part of the festival presentation is unrestricted.

  4. The time of the choir's presentation must not exceed 25 minutes.

  5. It is allowed to perform choral works with accompaniment.

  6. The organizers encourage choirs to include a piece by a Polish contemporary composer (20th, 21st century) a cappella in the program of the festival presentation. This piece will be evaluated separately by the Jury for the award of a Special Prize.

§3

  1. As part of the Festival, competition auditions are held in the category S - Musica Sacra in the Church of st. Peter the Apostle in Międzyzdroje.

  2. The choir is obliged to perform a program of sacred music with a duration not longer than 15 minutes.

  3. It is allowed to choral works with accompaniment.

 

§4

  1. Choirs submitting their participation in the festival send:

    • application form via the form on the website www.mfpch.eu no later than April 1,5 2024,

    • confirmation of payment of the entry fee in the amount of PLN 500 to the e-mail address: bartczakjolanta@wp.pl no later than April 14, 2024.

  2. Choirs whose members belong to the Polish Association of Choirs and Orchestras are entitled to a 50% discount on the entry fee.

  3. The choirs send copies of sheet music of works performed as part of festival and competition presentations to the e-mail address: dariody@wp.pl by May 31, 2023.

§5

  1. The Artistic Council qualifies for participation in the Festival, of whose decisions the choirs are immediately informed.

  2. Unclassified choirs will be refunded the registration fee.

  3. Classified choirs partially cover the costs of accommodation and meals. For the first two days, the partial cost is PLN 180 per person per day, then PLN 200 per person per day thereafter. 

  4. Organizer reserve the right to decide on accommodation and meals for participating choirs.

  5. Cassified choirs make payments towards the costs of accommodation and meals by May 20, 2024 to the Organizer's account indicated in the Rules.

  6. Resignation from participation in the festival  must be reported to the Organizing Director by May 20, 2024.

  7. Any changes to the programs of festival and competition presentations should be notified to the Artistic Director by June 9, 2024.

  8. Fees listed in par. 4 i 5 must be made by making a payment to the account:

§6

  1. The festival presentation is assessed by the Jury according to the following criteria:

    • technical:

      • level and difficulty of the piece

      • performance accuracy

      • rhythmicity

      • phrasing

      • intonation

    • artistic

      • stylistic fidelity

      • musicality

      • reproductive suggestiveness

      • new performative techniques

  2. The competition presentation in category S - Musica Sacra is judged by a separate Jury.

 

§7

  1. In the categories listed in par. 1 point 2 prizes are awarded in the form of:

    • Golden diplomas​

    • Silver diplomas

    • Bronze diplomas​​

  2. In the competition category S - Musica Sacra, prizes are awarded in the form of:

    • The main prize - Amber Halo of St. Peter the Apostle

    • Golden diplomas​

    • Silver diplomas

    • Bronze diplomas

  3. The main prize of the Festival is the GRAND PRIX in the amount of PLN 15,000.

  4. The special award named after Prof. Jan Szyrocki for the best performance of a work by a contemporary Polish composer is a statuette and PLN 5,000 funded by the Mayor of Miedzyzdroje.

  5. The jury may award extra prizes.
